Update as of 4/6/2011

*LA-based members have been negotiating on issues
pertained to shipping of liquid formula to Japan and
have been working to clear the following3 main concerns:
(1) Shipping means
(in the Finland model, Finair provided free shipping)
(2) Domestic delivery within Japan and a counterpart NPO
in Japan(Finnish formula worked with Human Shield Kobe,
an NPO conducting relief operations in Ishimaki,
Miyagi Prefecture)
(3) Safety of US-produced formula products
(the Finland team sent formula made by Tulutti,
a highly safe product)

*For reference, please see below information regarding
a formula campaign organized by a group of Japanese
mothers in Finland. The movement has been featured in
an article in Sankei Shimbun:
http://sankei.jp.msn.com/life/news/110329/edc11032915530001-n1.htm

*Milk for Japan is a movement that began on the internet
and many of our members are dispersed not only in the US
but also in other parts of the world
(there are over 550 members total).
The movement was triggered when I saw a tweet on the Finland
movement and then began a thread on the issue in a Japanese
social networking site, Mixi. An online petition was
organized on Facebook, which mobilized thousands of
signatures worldwide, so I have launched an official blog
/community to manage all the movements.
The Mixi site can be found at:
http://mixi.jp/view_community.pl?id=5554337
All the members maintain close contact with one another
through online conferences, cell phones and social media
networks. Moms worldwide have been working on the campaign
while juggling child-rearing and/or full-time work.

We hope to be able to follow the Finnish success story
and do our very best to send liquid formula to Japanese
disaster shelters.
We're grateful for everyone's support for the campaign
by signing the petition and are working hard to arrange
all the logistical details in making the shipment happen soon.
